Impact of mineral components and selected trace metals on ambient PM10 concentrations
نویسندگان
چکیده
PM10 levels of the mineral components Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg and some trace metals were measured at three different sites in the urban area of Vienna (Austria). Observed trace metal concentrations varied between less than 0.1 ngm 3 (Cd) and approximately 200 ngm 3 (Zn), mineral components showed enhanced concentrations ranging from 0.01 mgm 3 (Ca) to 16.3 mgm 3 (Si). The contribution of the respective mineral oxides to PM10 mass concentrations accounted on average for 26.4 16% (n1⁄4 1090) of the PM10 mass, with enhanced rates in spring and autumn (monthly averages of up to 40%) and decreased contributions in the cold season (monthly averages below 10%). The atmospheric occurrence of Al, Ti and Sr could be assigned to crustal sources, whereas for the elements Ba, Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn and V an increased contribution of non-crustal origin was observed. PM10 levels of As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sn and Zn were predominantly derived fromman-made emissions. Intersite comparison indicated that urban PM10 mass concentrations and PM10 levels of As, Pb and Znwere predominantly influenced from the transport of aerosols from outside into the city, whereas for the elements Ba, Mg, Ca, Cu and Fe a distinctly increased impact of local emissions was observed. The contribution of these urban emissions to total PM10 concentrations was estimated by calculating the so-called ‘‘urban impact’’, which was found to be 32.7 18% (n1⁄4 392) in the case of PM10 mass concentrations. The investigated elements accounted on average for 31.3 19% (n1⁄4 392) of the observed PM10 mass increase. The mean values for the ‘‘urban impacts’’ of individual elements varied between 25.5% (As) and 77.0% (Ba). 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The evaluation of heavy metals concentration related to PM10 in ambient air of Ahvaz city, Iran
Airborne particulate matter along with volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, and other compounds have raised many concerns to many countries including Iran. In this study, the concentrations of seven heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Pb, Zn, and Al) associated with PM10 have been investigated during normal and dusty days from September to February 2012. The mean PM10 concentrations on the norma...

The objective of this study was to determine the spatial variation of particle-bound heavy metals in two communities with different industrial status in Nigeria’s Niger Delta Area. Fourteen ambient respirable particulate matter (PM10) samples 7 each from Eleme (highly industrialized) and Ahoada East (less industrialized) communities were collected according to standard methods using Anderson Hi...

Bioaccessibility of trace metals originating from urban particulate matter was assessed in a worst case scenario to evaluate the uptake and thus the hazardous potential of these metals via gastric juice. Sampling was performed over a period of about two months at the Getreidemarkt in downtown Vienna. Concentrations of the assayed trace metals (Ti, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Tl ...

In this study, we have examined the relationships between the concentrations of ambient inhalable airborne fungi and pollen with PM10, PM2.5, ozone, organic carbon, selected trace metals (cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc), temperature, and relative humidity. The database was collected in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, during two consecutive years. Measurements of all environmental variables were perform...
متن کاملPM10 concentrations, trace elements and sources’ identification in three representative receptors of Western Macedonia, Greece
Many epidemiological studies have revealed consistent associations between ambient concentrations of inhalable (PM10) particles and their elemental composition with adverse respiratory health effects. On the other hand, suspended particulate matter emissions from several types of sources can be identified by the investigation of their particle element composition. The objectives of this work we...
